About this Ground
South Africa's most used Test and ODI venue, home to the Titans and consistently fast-paced pitch.
History & Significance
SuperSport Park in Centurion β known for many years as Centurion Park before commercial naming rights took hold β has been the most consistently used international cricket ground in South Africa since its completion in 1987. Located in the capital city region of Pretoria, it has hosted more South Africa home internationals than any other domestic ground and is the home base of the Titans franchise. The pitch at Centurion has a well-earned reputation for pace and bounce: the Highveld conditions, altitude, and clay-based surface combine to make it one of the more bowler-friendly Test pitches outside England, though batters who adapt quickly can score freely. The ground's most memorable moment in tournament cricket came as the host of the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy Final, where Australia under Ricky Ponting defeated New Zealand with six wickets to spare β a comprehensive win that cemented Australia's Champions Trophy pedigree. An infamous day at Centurion in 2000, during the Test against England, produced one of cricket's most controversial declarations: Hansie Cronje declared South Africa's innings closed and set England a generous target in exchange for forfeiting a session. England won by two wickets β the only forfeiture-based result in Test history, later overshadowed by Cronje's admission that he had accepted money to influence the match.
