Stats Query

Filter international batting & bowling records by player, team, opposition, venue and format.

Data: Cricsheet ball-by-ball, internationals (Test, ODI, T20I). Add at least one filter.

Cricket Stats Query Tool — How to Use It

This stats query tool lets you filter individual innings records from the GeoCric database by player name, team, opposition, venue, date range, and format. It is designed for the kind of contextual analysis that a raw averages table cannot provide — for example, how many runs did Virat Kohli score against Australia in Test cricket at overseas venues since 2020, or what is Steve Smith's bowling economy in T20 Internationals? Enter your filters and press Run Query to retrieve matching innings, with aggregate totals (runs, wickets, average, economy) calculated automatically across all matching rows.

The batting discipline returns individual innings sorted by run total, showing runs scored, balls faced, fours, sixes, strike rate, dismissal status, and match date. The bowling discipline returns bowling spells sorted by wickets taken, showing wickets, runs conceded, overs bowled, and economy rate. Both disciplines support all international formats — Test, ODI, and T20I — as well as domestic equivalents (First Class, List A, T20 domestic) where data is available. The date filter uses the ISO format MM-DD to allow cross-year queries (e.g. "from 01-01 to 06-30" retrieves all records from the first half of every year in the database).

The stats database behind this tool is populated in real time from live match scorecards processed by GeoCric. Each time a match scorecard is viewed, the individual innings data is extracted and stored — meaning coverage grows as users browse the site. The database prioritises recent seasons but contains records stretching back across multiple ICC event cycles. For the most authoritative all-time career records (most Test runs, highest ODI score, most wickets across formats), use the Cricket Records page. For pre-aggregated career averages and format breakdowns by player, the Stats Leaders page is faster. This query tool is best suited to situational analysis — performance in specific conditions, against specific opponents, or within specific date windows.

Understanding the key metrics: batting average is runs divided by dismissals (not innings), so a player who scores 50 not out contributes 50 runs but no dismissal. Bowling average is runs conceded per wicket taken — a lower number is better. Economy rate is runs conceded per over — critical in limited-overs cricket where restricting run flow is as valuable as taking wickets. Bowling strike rate (balls per wicket) is the most pure measure of a bowler's wicket-taking ability, independent of how expensive they are. For full explanations of all these metrics, visit the Batting Average Explained and Bowling Economy Rate Explained guides.

About the Cricket Stats Query Tool

The GeoCric stats query tool lets you filter international cricket records by any combination of player, team, opposition, venue, and format — a Statsguru-style interface built on Cricsheet ball-by-ball data covering Test matches, ODIs, and T20 Internationals. Batting queries return innings-by-innings results ranked by runs scored, with summary aggregates showing total runs, average, strike rate, high score, and fifty and hundred counts across the filtered set. Bowling queries return spell-by-spell data sorted by wickets, with economy rate, average, and total balls bowled in the aggregate panel. Useful queries include a batter's record against a specific opponent (e.g., Virat Kohli vs Australia), a bowler's figures at a particular venue (e.g., Jasprit Bumrah at the MCG), all batting performances above a run threshold in T20 Internationals, or how a team has fared when bowling first. The underlying dataset is refreshed from Cricsheet and covers the full modern international archive. Filters can be combined freely — a player search with a format filter returns only that format's innings, while a team and opposition pairing with no player filter surfaces the head-to-head record across all players for both sides. Results are capped at the top 500 innings or spells by default; narrow your filters to drill into a specific sub-record. For pre-computed career totals and format breakdowns, see the stats leaderboards or individual player profiles.
