Scoring records in cricket capture the extremes of batting dominance. The highest individual innings and team totals have been set across all three formats, reflecting both the quality of batting and the conditions on the day. These records illustrate just how far batting can push when pitches are flat and the ball offers little assistance to bowlers.

Highest Test Total: Sri Lanka 952/6d

Sri Lanka scored 952 for six declared against India in Colombo in August 1997. Sanath Jayasuriya scored 340 and Roshan Mahanama scored 225 — their second-wicket partnership of 576 remains the highest for any wicket in Test cricket. The innings was played on a completely flat pitch over two days.

England's 903/7d at The Oval, 1938

England declared on 903 for seven against Australia in the famous timeless Test at The Oval in 1938. Len Hutton scored a then-world-record 364 in the innings. This remains the highest total in an Ashes Test and was the world record for the highest Test innings total for nearly 60 years until Sri Lanka surpassed it.

The highest ODI total is 481/6 by England against Australia at Trent Bridge in 2016. Jason Roy (180), Joe Root (90) and Jos Buttler (110) all scored heavily as England won by 242 runs.

Biggest T20I Totals

The highest T20I total is 278/3 by Afghanistan against Ireland in Greater Noida in 2019, with Hazratullah Zazai scoring 162 not out off 62 balls. T20 batting records have risen sharply since 2015 as pitches have flattened, boundary restrictions have changed, and bat technology has advanced.
