About the Big Bash League
The KFC Big Bash League (BBL) is Australia's premier domestic Twenty20 competition, run by Cricket Australia since its inaugural season in 2011-12. Replacing the older State Twenty20 competition, the BBL introduced a city-based franchise model that transformed Australian domestic cricket, generating some of the highest T20 attendances in the world.
The competition features 8 franchises from Australia's major cities: Sydney (Sixers and Thunder), Melbourne (Stars and Renegades), Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers, and Hobart Hurricanes. Over a regular season and finals series, the clubs play 61 matches leading to a grand final.
The BBL attracts top international T20 talent every summer, with clubs allowed to field up to two overseas players per match. Stars from the IPL, Caribbean Premier League, and county cricket regularly make the trip Down Under, elevating the competition's global appeal.
Perth Scorchers are the most decorated side with five titles, renowned for their exceptional bowling attacks and extraordinary fielding standards. The Sixers, with four titles, are the Scorchers' closest challengers. The BBL Final is traditionally played at the home ground of the higher-ranked finalist, creating an electric home crowd atmosphere.
