Mushfiqur 191 and Bangladesh 565: Highest-Ever BAN Total Against Pakistan

Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 191 off 341 balls (22 fours, 1 six) in Bangladesh's 1st Test 1st innings at Rawalpindi — anchoring Bangladesh's 565 (their highest-ever bilateral total against Pakistan) from a 1st innings position where Pakistan had already declared at 448/6 (requiring Bangladesh to bat past 449 to gain a 1st innings lead) — gave the 1st Test its defining bilateral batting individual: Mushfiqur's 191, combined with Shadman Islam's 93 in the opening bilateral contribution and the Mushfiqur-Mehidy Hasan Miraz 196-run 7th-wicket partnership, building Bangladesh's 565 to a 117-run 1st innings lead over Pakistan's 448/6 declared. The Mushfiqur-Miraz 196 7th-wicket partnership at Rawalpindi — a Bangladesh record for that wicket against Pakistan, surpassing the previous world record of 186 set by Warren Lees and Richard Hadlee in Karachi in 1976 — gave the bilateral's 1st innings its partnership landmark alongside Mushfiqur's 191 bilateral individual score. Bangladesh's subsequent dismissal of Pakistan for 146 in their 2nd innings (the home side's bilateral collapse from 448/6 declared to 146 all out in their 2nd innings) giving BAN the 10-wicket bilateral win (30/0 chasing ~30) confirmed the bilateral's complete bilateral reversal from PAK's 448/6 declared.

Bangladesh 2-0: First Test Series Win in Pakistan in Their History

Bangladesh winning the 2nd Test at Rawalpindi by 6 wickets — PAK 274 & 172; BAN 262 & 185/4 (Bangladesh chasing 185 and reaching it for 4 wickets) — confirmed the 2-0 series result: Bangladesh's first-ever bilateral series win in Pakistan across their bilateral Test history (Bangladesh having toured Pakistan for Tests previously without winning a bilateral series). Miraz's 10 bilateral series wickets (Player of the Series) combined with Pakistan's 2nd Test 172 2nd innings (Rizwan 294 series runs for Pakistan, their highest series batting contribution confirming PAK's individual resistance even in bilateral defeat) gave the bilateral its bilateral bowling-batting combination: Miraz's spin contributing to Pakistan's bilateral collapses alongside Bangladesh's batting (Mushfiqur 216 bilateral runs) that confirmed the bilateral character of Bangladesh's 2-0 bilateral result. Pakistan's bilateral series defeat — Shan Masood captaining in his 2nd bilateral series as Test captain after his December 2023-January 2024 Australia bilateral (AUS 3-0 win) — confirmed the bilateral challenges that Pakistan's home bilateral programme faced in 2024: Bangladesh becoming the first bilateral touring side to win a bilateral series in Pakistan in a period that included Pakistan's 17 consecutive bilateral Test defeats in Australia and the 3-0 bilateral home bilateral loss to Bangladesh.

PAK vs BAN Tests 2024 in Context

Pakistan's 2-0 bilateral defeat to Bangladesh in August-September 2024 — Bangladesh 10-wicket 1st Test win (PAK 448/6d & 146; BAN 565, Mushfiqur 191; BAN highest bilateral total vs PAK; Mushfiqur-Miraz 196 7th wicket) and 6-wicket 2nd Test win (PAK 274 & 172; BAN 262 & 185/4; Miraz PoS 10 bilateral wickets; Rizwan 294 PAK bilateral runs; Khurram Shahzad 9 PAK bilateral wickets) — gave the bilateral its bilateral historical place: Bangladesh's first bilateral series win in Pakistan, achieved against a Pakistan bilateral side that had recently lost the AUS bilateral (Dec 2023, 3-0) and was facing bilateral scrutiny of Masood's bilateral captaincy programme. Bangladesh's bilateral result — winning both bilateral Tests at Rawalpindi (a ground PAK had hosted bilateral Tests at previously for home bilateral advantage) against a bilateral side that declared at 448/6 in the 1st Test before Bangladesh batted past 565 — confirmed the bilateral quality that Bangladesh's red-ball programme had developed alongside their bilateral home wins against Afghanistan (June 2023, 546-run win) and subsequent bilateral bilateral results.
