Series Overview

The 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup was held in South Africa in February 2023, with matches played in Cape Town, Paarl, Gqeberha, and Benoni. Ten teams competed across two groups, with Australia, England, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh in Group 1, and South Africa, West Indies, Ireland, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in Group 2. Australia dominated their group, winning all four matches to qualify for the semi-finals in comfortable fashion. South Africa produced the tournament's fairy-tale story, winning all their matches on home soil to reach their first-ever ICC women's final. The final at Newlands in Cape Town was played in front of a packed crowd, with the home support roaring behind South Africa. Australia's Alyssa Healy, however, delivered a match-turning 75 to anchor Australia's total of 156, which proved too steep a target. South Africa were bowled out for 137, giving Australia their sixth Women's T20 World Cup title. Meg Lanning was superb as captain throughout, and Australia's victory reinforced their position as the undisputed dominant force in women's cricket at that time.
