The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy was one of the most eagerly anticipated Test series in modern cricket. India had won four consecutive BGT series since 2016-17, including two victories on Australian soil. Australia needed to win the five-Test series to secure a place in the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025. The opening Test in Perth was a shock — India won by 295 runs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 161 and Jasprit Bumrah taking 8 wickets across the match. Australia levelled in Adelaide, winning the day-night Test by 10 wickets as Mitchell Starc's 6/48 dismantled India's first innings. Brisbane was drawn, before Australia won the Boxing Day Test at the MCG by 184 runs in front of a record 373,691-strong crowd. Australia sealed the trophy in Sydney, winning by 6 wickets as Scott Boland took 6/45 in India's second innings. Despite the loss, Jasprit Bumrah was the undisputed Player of the Series — his 32 wickets at 13.06 are among the greatest individual bowling performances in BGT history, equalling Harbhajan Singh's record for most wickets in a single series.
