BBL Format
The BBL season runs from December to February, coinciding with the Australian summer. Each team plays multiple round-robin games before a knockout Finals series. The BBL has been a pioneer in T20 format innovation, introducing the 'Bash Boost' (bonus points for leading at the 10-over mark), the 'X Factor' player substitution, and the 'Power Surge' (a 2-over batting powerplay the batting team can take at any point in overs 11–18).
BBL Innovations
- Power Surge: 2 overs of batting powerplay taken between overs 11–18 (fielding restricted)
- Bash Boost: bonus points to the team leading at the 10-over mark of the second innings
- X Factor: a substitute player can replace an unused batter or bowler after 10 overs in the first innings
