The Caribbean Premier League

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is the premier T20 cricket competition of the West Indies, founded in 2013. It features six franchise teams representing the main cricketing territories of the Caribbean and is officially sanctioned by Cricket West Indies. The CPL season runs from August to September — slotting into the Northern Hemisphere cricket calendar as many European domestic competitions conclude.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) — the most successful team in CPL history — represent Trinidad and Tobago. They are owned by Knight Riders Group (which also owns KKR in the IPL and LAKR in MLC) and play in the iconic purple-and-gold colours of the Knight Riders brand. TKR have won the CPL title four times, making them the league's dominant franchise.

Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors

Barbados Royals represent the cricket-rich island of Barbados — home of Kensington Oval and producer of greats including Garfield Sobers and Gordon Greenidge. Guyana Amazon Warriors have been CPL finalists multiple times but have yet to win the title, making them the competition's perennial nearly team. Both are competitive franchises that regularly attract world-class international talent.

Other CPL Franchises

The remaining three CPL franchises are the Jamaica Tallawahs, the Saint Lucia Kings, and the Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Jamaica Tallawahs have won the CPL title twice. The Saint Lucia Kings — formerly the Zouks — rebranded and have developed into competitive contenders. The Patriots represent the smaller islands of the Eastern Caribbean. All six franchises recruit international players through a player draft process.
