The world record partnership in Test cricket stands at 624 for the 3rd wicket, made by Mahela Jayawardene (374) and Kumar Sangakkara (287) for Sri Lanka against South Africa in 2006. Two of Sri Lanka's all-time greats combined in a partnership so dominant that South Africa were completely overwhelmed, and Sri Lanka's total of 952/6 dec is itself the second-highest team total in Tests.

Laxman and Dravid — Eden Gardens 2001

For Indian cricket, no partnership is more celebrated than VVS Laxman (281) and Rahul Dravid (180) adding 376 for the 5th wicket at Eden Gardens in 2001. Made following on against an Australia side on a 16-match winning streak, their partnership is considered the greatest of the modern era for the circumstances in which it was achieved.

Opening Partnerships

The opening partnership record in Tests is held by Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy who added 413 for India against New Zealand in 1955/56. More recently, Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss were England's most productive opening pair, sharing 13 century partnerships across a prolonged Test opening era.
