The Super League System
The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League was introduced from 2020 as the primary qualification pathway for the 50-over World Cup. Thirteen Full Member nations and one associate nation play each other in home and away bilateral three-match ODI series, accumulating points. The top eight teams at the end of the Super League cycle — plus the host nation if not already qualified — earn automatic berths in the World Cup.
Qualification Process
- Super League phase: bilateral ODI series among 13+ nations, each worth 10 points per win.
- Top 8 automatic qualification: the eight highest-placed teams in the Super League standings qualify automatically.
- Host nation exemption: if the host nation finishes outside the top 8, they still qualify, replacing the 8th-placed team.

The ICC T20 World Cup has a different qualification structure. The ICC T20I rankings determine which teams receive direct qualification to the main event vs the preliminary First Round. From 2024, the tournament expanded to 20 teams, reducing the qualification barrier and allowing more associate nations to participate in the main event stage.
Associate Nations
ICC associate nations — those without Full Member status, such as the USA, Canada, Netherlands, and Oman — qualify for the World Cup through ICC Regional Qualifiers (Americas, Africa, Europe, East Asia-Pacific) before entering the final World Cup Qualifier.
