It initially played its matches in the UAE due to security restrictions on hosting international cricket in Pakistan. From 2017, matches were gradually moved back to Pakistan, and by 2022 the entire tournament was played within the country. The PSL features six teams: Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, and Islamabad United.
