What Is Run Rate in Cricket?

Run rate (RR) in cricket is the average number of runs scored per over during an innings. It is the primary measure of a batting team's scoring speed. A run rate of 6.00 means the team is scoring 6 runs per over on average.

How Run Rate Is Calculated

Current Run Rate (CRR) = Total Runs Scored ÷ Overs Bowled. For example, if a team has scored 120 runs in 20 overs, their CRR = 120 ÷ 20 = 6.00. Partial overs are expressed as decimals — 20.3 overs means 20 full overs plus 3 balls, or 20.5 overs.
