Jasprit Bumrah represents the evolution of subcontinent fast bowling to its highest form. His unusual action — wide of the crease, chest-on, chest-on — generates awkward angles that no other bowler can replicate. His yorker is the finest in contemporary cricket, executed at 145 kph in the death overs of T20s and Tests alike. His numbers across formats place him among the best of the current generation: Test wickets at under 22 average, economy rate in T20Is below 6 runs per over. Chaminda Vaas and Sri Lanka's Pace Tradition
Chaminda Vaas used the Duke ball's seam with a precision that made him genuinely dangerous in English and South African conditions, despite being relatively medium-pace. His 355 Test wickets reflect consistent excellence rather than explosive pace. He bowled the most economical opening overs in Test cricket for a decade, rarely conceding in the fourth or fifth stumps, forcing batsmen to play. The 8/19 against Zimbabwe in 2001 remains one of the finest ODI bowling performances in history. Vaas showed that intelligent medium-fast bowling from the subcontinent could be as effective as raw pace from elsewhere.
