Brian Lara — The Double Record Holder

Brian Lara of West Indies holds the world record for the highest individual innings in Test cricket with 400 not out against England at Antigua in 2004. Earlier in 1994 he had broken the record with 375 against England in the same venue, only for Matthew Hayden to briefly hold the record with 380 in 2003 before Lara reclaimed it with 400*.

Len Hutton's Record Era

Before Lara, England's Len Hutton held the Test record for decades with 364 against Australia at The Oval in 1938 — a record that stood for nearly 20 years. His innings came in an era of longer pitch preparation and significantly slower over rates, requiring multiple days of concentration against sustained bowling.

India's Triple Centurions

Virender Sehwag is India's highest Test scorer with 319 against South Africa and 293 against Sri Lanka, coming close to 300 twice. More recently, Karunaratne and other batters have made 300+ scores in Test cricket. India have also produced multiple 200+ scores from players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in recent years.
