Cricket West Indies (CWI): 15 Nations, 2 T20 World Cups & CPL

Cricket West Indies (CWI), formerly the West Indies Cricket Board, is the governing body for cricket across 15 Caribbean nations and territories. Unlike most cricket boards that govern a single country, CWI represents a coalition including Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, Antigua, and others.

The Multi-Nation Structure

The West Indies cricket team represents 15 nations and territories including the largest cricket-playing nations in the Caribbean. Each territory has its own domestic cricket board, and the West Indies Cricket Board coordinates them into one international team. This federal structure creates both strength and occasional administrative tension.

World Cup History

West Indies have won the ODI World Cup twice (1975, 1979), both under Clive Lloyd. They also won the T20 World Cup twice (2012, 2016) — Darren Sammy's team beat Sri Lanka in 2012, and Carlos Brathwaite's four sixes won the 2016 final against England in Kolkata.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL)

The CPL, launched in 2013, is one of world cricket's premier T20 leagues. Six franchise teams play across Caribbean venues including Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, and Jamaica. It has helped revive West Indies cricket by providing a development pathway for Caribbean players.
