Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club was founded in 1841 — making them one of the oldest county clubs — and play at Trent Bridge in West Bridgford, Nottingham. Trent Bridge is one of England's premier Test venues, renowned for its batting-friendly pitches and its atmospheric crowds. The ground is officially known as the Vitality Blast Ground for T20 sponsorship purposes.

County Championship Titles

Nottinghamshire have won the County Championship six times: 1907, 1929, 1981, 1987, 2005, and 2010. Their 1981 title — achieved under Clive Rice's captaincy with Richard Hadlee's devastating bowling — was one of the most dominant county performances of the modern era. Richard Hadlee's 105 wickets at 14.89 in 1981 remains one of the most extraordinary individual county season performances ever recorded.

The Hadlee and Rice Era

The greatest period in Nottinghamshire's modern history came in the 1980s when they recruited Clive Rice (South Africa) and Richard Hadlee (New Zealand) as overseas players. The two all-rounders transformed Nottinghamshire into one of the most formidable county sides in England, winning two Championships and multiple one-day titles. Hadlee's bowling was particularly devastating — he brought New Zealand's Test philosophy to county cricket with exceptional results.

Trent Bridge as a Test Venue

Trent Bridge has hosted Test cricket since 1899 and is famous for producing pitches that offer early movement for bowlers but excellent scoring conditions as matches develop. Many famous Test moments have occurred at Trent Bridge, including Australia's highest Ashes total and several decisive Ashes tests.
