Rohan Kanhai was famous for a shot that no coaching manual would ever recommend: the falling sweep. When the ball was full and wide, Kanhai would sweep it and then — in an act of supreme confidence and balance — follow through so completely that he would fall to the ground, yet the ball would race to the boundary. Career and Test Record

Kanhai played 79 Tests for West Indies from 1957 to 1974, scoring 6,227 runs at an average of 47.53 with 15 centuries. He was part of the West Indies team alongside Garfield Sobers, Conrad Hunte and Clive Lloyd — a batting line-up that dominated world cricket for much of this period. Kanhai scored double centuries against India and Pakistan, and made memorable contributions in the 1963 and 1966 Ashes series in England.

Legacy and Influence

Kanhai captained West Indies in his later career and was a significant influence on a generation of Caribbean batsmen, including Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd.
