Sikandar Raza Butt was born on 24 April 1986 in Sialkot, Pakistan — the same city that produced Imran Khan and Shoaib Akhtar. His family moved to Zimbabwe in 2002 when Raza was 16, and he built his entire adult life and cricket career there. He qualified to play for Zimbabwe through residency, made his international debut in 2013, and became not merely a competent member of the team but its most significant figure — eventually its captain, its most consistent performer with bat and ball, and its most recognisable face in international cricket.

Playing Style: Aggressive All-Rounder

Raza is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler. His batting evolved from a middle-order anchor role to an attacking weapon capable of match-winning innings in all formats. His off-spin is accurate, dipping, and effective on the spinning subcontinent pitches — he has performed in T20 leagues across the globe because his bowling is reliable under pressure and his batting provides the flexibility to slot anywhere from 3 to 7. 2022 was Raza's defining year in international cricket. He scored over 1,000 international runs, took more than 30 wickets, and performed consistently across all three formats and multiple countries — feats that led ICC voters to name him Men's Cricketer of the Year. It was the first time a Zimbabwean player had won the award since it was established, and only the second time a player from an Associate/Lower-ranked nation had won. Raza has played in multiple T20 leagues internationally — appearing in the PSL (Pakistan Super League), The Hundred, SA20, CPL (Caribbean Premier League), and various other competitions.
