What Is the World Test Championship?
The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) is the pinnacle league competition for Test cricket. Launched in 2019-21 (first cycle), it provides an overarching competition context for bilateral Test series that would otherwise have no cumulative stake. Nine Test-playing nations compete for points across a two-year cycle; the top two teams play a final to determine the World Test Champion.
How Points Work
Teams earn points based on match results: a Test win earns 12 points, a draw earns 4 points, and a loss earns 0 points. Points percentage (PCT) — points earned as a proportion of points available — is used as the ranking metric to allow comparison between teams who play different numbers of Tests. Deductions apply for slow over rates.

Qualification for the WTC Final
The top two teams by points percentage (PCT) at the end of a two-year cycle qualify for the WTC Final, held at a neutral venue (typically in England). The format — four reserve days, neutral venue — is designed to give both teams the most even possible playing conditions for a single Test decider.
