About SA20
The SA20 is South Africa's premier T20 franchise competition, launched in January 2023 under the governance of Cricket South Africa and partly owned by the six IPL franchise ownership groups, giving it the strongest private investment backing of any cricket league outside India. Six franchises — Pretoria Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Joburg Super Kings, and Durban's Super Giants — compete across January and February at South Africa's top venues, including Newlands in Cape Town, SuperSport Park in Pretoria, Wanderers in Johannesburg, and Kingsmead in Durban. The SA20's IPL ownership links give it direct recruitment access to some of the world's best T20 players during the southern-hemisphere summer window that precedes the IPL auction cycle. The competition runs its inaugural editions to strong domestic television ratings, helped by a passionate cricket following in South Africa and a broadcast deal that covers multiple markets. The SA20 window was designed specifically to fit the space between the BBL's final weeks and the start of the IPL, creating a clear pathway for overseas players to move between southern-hemisphere and Indian competitions. GeoCric tracks every SA20 match result, the full points table, and player statistics across the season.
