Cup Match — Cricket as a National Holiday

The Cup Match is Bermuda's most famous sporting event and a national public holiday. Held on the Thursday and Friday before the first Monday of August, the Cup Match is a two-day cricket match between Somerset Cricket Club and St George's Cricket Club — the two oldest rivalry clubs in Bermuda. The event draws thousands of spectators, features soca music, gambling tents, and food stalls, and is one of the most unique cricket traditions anywhere in the world.

2007 Cricket World Cup

Bermuda's greatest cricketing achievement was qualifying for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies. As one of the smallest nations ever to qualify for a World Cup in any team sport, Bermuda competed in Group C against Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh — losing all three matches but earning the right to compete on the world's biggest cricket stage.

Modern Cricket

Since 2007, Bermuda has not qualified for another ICC global event but maintains a vibrant domestic scene. The Bermuda Cricket Board oversees multiple leagues, and the Cup Match tradition ensures cricket remains embedded in national culture. Bermuda competes in ICC Americas qualifying events.
