Abrar Ahmed burst onto the Test cricket scene in February 2023 with a debut performance against England that left both batters and commentators struggling to read his variations. His unusual wrist-spin action, multiple deliveries that spin in different directions, and calm demeanour made him an instant talking point in world cricket.

The Test Debut

Abrar made his Test debut against England in the third Test at Karachi in December 2022. He immediately took wickets, dismissing Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in the same over in an outstanding spell. His bowling was unlike anything England had faced — the ball turned sharply and sometimes went the opposite way from what batters expected, and his action provided little clue about what was coming.

Bowling Variations

Abrar bowls right-arm wrist spin. His standard delivery is the googly — spinning from off to leg for right-handed batters, opposite to what a standard wrist-spinner delivers.
