The Hundred Teams Explained: All Eight Franchises and Their Home Grounds

The Hundred Format

The Hundred is the ECB's city-based 100-ball cricket competition, launched in 2021. Eight teams compete in a round-robin followed by knockout stages each July-August. Each team plays 10 balls per batting spell (instead of overs), and bowlers bowl a maximum of 20 balls per match. The competition was designed to attract new audiences — particularly families and young people — to cricket in England and Wales.

The Eight Teams

The eight teams and their grounds: Oval Invincibles (The Oval, London), London Spirit (Lord's, London), Southern Brave (Ageas Bowl, Southampton), Birmingham Phoenix (Edgbaston), Trent Rockets (Trent Bridge, Nottingham), Northern Superchargers (Headingley, Leeds), Welsh Fire (Sophia Gardens, Cardiff), and Manchester Originals (Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester).

The Men's and Women's Competitions

The Hundred runs parallel men's and women's competitions — both held at the same venues on the same matchdays, with the women's match followed by the men's. The women's competition has been praised as the best opportunity for women's cricket to reach large, mixed-gender crowds. Sellout crowds at Lord's and The Oval for women's Hundred matches have set records for women's cricket attendance in England.

Early Champions

Southern Brave won the inaugural 2021 Hundred (both men's and women's competitions), becoming the first-ever Hundred champions. Oval Invincibles won the men's competition in 2022. The competition's early seasons confirmed growing public interest with multiple sell-out matchdays and significant free-to-air BBC television exposure.
