Rajasthan Royals entered the inaugural 2008 IPL auction as one of the least-funded franchises. They lacked the marquee names of Mumbai Indians or Chennai Super Kings. Suspension and Return

Like CSK, Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two seasons (2016–17) over the same spot-fixing investigation. They returned in 2018 as Rising Pune Supergiant briefly absorbed some of their players, then came back with a rebuild. Sanju Samson emerged as their iconic local captain, leading RR to the 2022 final where they lost to Gujarat Titans.

Sanju Samson has captained Rajasthan Royals since 2021. His swashbuckling batting and calm captaincy have made RR competitive again. Young stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal — who broke IPL records in 2023 — and Riyan Parag have emerged under Samson's leadership. RR's second title remains a goal but their status as one of the IPL's most admired and authentic franchises is established.
