What Is Run Rate?
Run rate in cricket measures the number of runs scored per over. It is the primary pace-of-scoring metric and is used in multiple contexts: current run rate (CRR), required run rate (RRR), and net run rate (NRR) for tournament standings.

Reading a Run Rate
In an ODI chase, if the batting side needs 180 runs from 30 overs, their RRR is 6.0 runs per over. If they have scored 100 in 20 overs, their CRR is 5.0 and RRR is now 8.0. The gap between CRR and RRR tells you whether the chase is on track, ahead, or in trouble.

Some T20 innings have reached run rates above 20 runs per over for the full innings — though these are typically short innings. A full 20-over innings at an overall run rate above 14 is considered exceptional.
Does run rate include extras?
Yes. All runs scored — whether off the bat, from wides, no-balls, byes, or leg byes — count in the run rate calculation. Extras contribute to the batting team's total and therefore to their run rate.
