Can seam bowlers use drift?
Seam bowlers can use swing (lateral movement through air), which is related but generated by a different mechanism — the pressure differential created by one shiny and one rough side of the ball. Drift in the spin-bowling sense (Magnus effect from ball rotation) is specific to bowlers with high revolution rates on the seam. Some medium-pace cutters generate a small amount of drift from their grip, but it is far less pronounced than that of a quality spinner bowling with a well-maintained seam.
Why is dip harder to train than turn?
Turn off the surface is partly a function of pitch conditions (rough, dry surfaces help). Dip requires the bowler to achieve a specific combination of flight arc, rpm, and release angle that is harder to control consistently. Many club-level spin bowlers can turn the ball but generate little dip — their deliveries arrive at a predictable height and the batsman adapts quickly. Dip is the differentiator between a decent club spinner and an international-quality one.
