The Super Over is a one-over eliminator used in T20 and ODI cricket when matches end in a tie. Each team faces exactly one over with two wickets available — the team that scores the most runs in their Super Over wins the match. If the Super Over also ties, the rules vary by competition.
How the Super Over Works
- The team batting second in the main match faces the Super Over first.
- Each team nominates two batsmen and one bowler for the Super Over.
- The team faces six deliveries (or until two wickets fall).
- The team that scores more runs wins. Wide and no balls still apply.
- If tied again, most competitions use the 'more boundaries' rule to separate the teams.

Super Over Rules
- Fielding restrictions apply — same as the main innings death overs.
- Powerplay does not apply — the batting team can have the ring fielders out if applicable.
- Wides and no balls add extras and must be rebowled.
- Batsmen can only bat in the Super Over if they did not retire or bat in the main innings (they can bat even if dismissed in the main game).

Does the Super Over happen in Test cricket?
No — Test matches can end in draws or ties. A tied Test is extremely rare (it has happened four times in history) and there is no Super Over tiebreaker.
Who can bowl the Super Over?
Any bowler who bowled in the main innings can bowl the Super Over. Teams typically select their best death bowler or whoever is in best form that day.
