The Hayden–Langer combination was feared throughout the cricket world in the early 2000s. In 113 opening partnerships they shared 14 century stands and 40 fifty-plus partnerships. After retiring as a player, Langer became an influential coach. He coached Western Australia to Sheffield Shield success before being appointed Australia head coach in 2018.
