Mitchell Johnson is an Australian left-arm fast bowler born on 2 November 1981 in Townsville, Queensland. Capable of bowling at over 155 km/h and generating steep bounce from his tall frame, Johnson became one of the most feared bowlers of his era when at his peak. He took 313 Test wickets at 28.40 and 239 ODI wickets, and played a central role in Australia's dominant Ashes series victories.

Johnson's defining series was the 2013–14 Ashes in Australia, where he was virtually unplayable for five Test matches. He took 37 wickets at 13.97 — one of the most destructive individual Ashes bowling performances in history — as Australia whitewashed England 5–0. His left-arm angle and ability to angle the ball into right-handed batters from around the wicket while also bowling short balls at high pace made him incredibly difficult to face. He won the ICC Cricketer of the Year award for 2014.
