PCB Explained: Pakistan Cricket Board, WC 1992 & PSL

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is the national governing body for cricket in Pakistan, founded in 1948. Pakistan became an ICC full member in 1952 and played their first Test match in 1952. Despite political challenges, Pakistan has won multiple ICC trophies and produced some of cricket's greatest players.

ICC Trophy History

Pakistan's major ICC victories include the 1992 ODI World Cup (under Imran Khan, beating England at Melbourne), the 2009 T20 World Cup (under Younis Khan), the 2017 Champions Trophy (under Sarfraz Ahmed, beating India), and the 2021 T20 World Cup (under Babar Azam).

The Pakistan Super League

The Pakistan Super League (PSL), launched in 2016, is Pakistan's T20 franchise competition. Six franchise teams play across venues in Pakistan, including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Multan. The league has helped restore international cricket to Pakistan after the 2009 Lahore attack disrupted cricket for a decade.
