Shaun Pollock is a South African right-arm fast-medium bowler and lower-order batter born on 16 July 1973 in Port Elizabeth. He is widely regarded as South Africa's greatest all-round cricketer, taking 421 Test wickets at an extraordinary average of 23.11 while averaging 32.31 with the bat. He captained South Africa for much of his career and was consistently ranked among the world's top all-rounders.

Test Career

Pollock made his Test debut in 1995 and immediately established himself as a disciplined, intelligent seam bowler who moved the ball both ways and used his pace and fitness to bowl long spells. His bowling average of 23.11 in Tests is one of the best among all-rounders who have taken 100+ wickets. He partnered with Allan Donald — 'White Lightning' — to form South Africa's feared opening attack for much of the late 1990s, and later led the attack as the senior bowler when Donald retired.

Beyond his bowling, Pollock was a valuable lower-order batter who scored 3,781 runs at 32.31 in Tests — outstanding figures for a bowling all-rounder.
